Chipboard Screws ~ Wood screws vary in thickness, length, fastening type, protection or color, and thread type. We use them to quickly and permanently join solid wood elements, assemble furniture, install furniture fittings, and more. The appropriate screw length depends on the thickness of the wood being fastened. Flat screws do not fulfill their function, which can be resolved in extreme cases with a larger number of screws or a larger screw diameter. If tensile forces act on the fastened wood in the direction of the screw, sufficient screw penetration is more important than the diameter. As a general rule, the screw must be driven at least three inches into the lower piece of wood. The thread must have sufficient contact with the wood fibers to create friction that prevents the wood from moving. When screwing into wood edges or working with hardwood, there is a risk of wood cracking, especially when using thicker screws. To prevent the wood from splitting, a pilot hole must be drilled in these cases, but the drill bit must not be larger than the diameter of the unthreaded part of the screw.15H01004
