Standard PVC Edge Banding Composition

The chemical breakdown of a standard rigid PVC edge banding formulation is outlined below:

Chemical  Ingredient  Percentage Primary Function(s)
Polyvinyl Chloride (C2H3Cl)n (90-95%) Base resin that provides structural strength, durability, and moisture resistance.
Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) (5-15%) Acts as a filler to increase rigidity and opacity. Low-grade formulas with excess \(CaCO_{3}\) may "whiten" when bent.
Plasticizers (4-20%) Additives like phthalates (or epoxidized soybean oil for eco-friendly variants) used to provide flexibility.
Stabilizers (e.g., Calcium-Zinc) (1.5-10%) Heat stabilizers to prevent degradation during extrusion and ensure UV resistance.
Processing Aids & Acrylic Modifiers (2-15%) Additives that improve melt flow during manufacturing and impact resistance.
Masterbatch / Pigments (1-2%) Colorants and metallic effects to match specific board finishes.
Lubricants (Internal/External) (0.5-3.5%) Prevent the PVC from sticking to extrusion machinery; regulates surface finish.
Primer / UV Absorber (0.5-1.5%) Primer layers permit optimal bonding to the furniture board.
