I. Core Materials and Industry Knowledge
Understanding the characteristics of different materials is the first step in procurement and product development, especially with your large procurement volume. Material selection directly affects cost, quality, and pricing.
Material Types and Core Characteristics
PP (Polypropylene): Good toughness, bending resistance, and economical price. Suitable for your large-volume procurement of 130,000 pieces per year, offering the highest cost-performance ratio. Mainstream economical option. Suitable for high-volume products; low raw material cost effectively controls the overall sofa cost.
ABS (Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene): High hardness, excellent surface electroplating or painting effect, metallic appearance, and better texture than PP. Mid-to-high-end decorative option. Suitable for sofas that require an enhanced look and metallic feel while controlling weight.
PA/Nylon: Highest strength, temperature resistance, and abrasion resistance; excellent load-bearing capacity. High-end/heavy-duty option. Suitable for large sectional sofas, commercial sofas, or scenarios with extremely high load-bearing requirements.
Special Note: Products made from recycled materials exist in the market. These are typically very low-cost, darker and duller in color, contain more impurities, and are prone to cracking.
PP material itself is non-toxic and harmless, but be wary of suppliers using recycled materials to lower prices. The darker the color and the lower the transparency, the greater the likelihood of recycled materials being used. If you require high-quality PP material, it is recommended to specify a "brand new PP material" clause in the contract.
II. Structure and Manufacturing Technology
Besides the material, the internal structure directly determines the durability and load-bearing capacity of the sofa legs.
Pure Plastic/One-Piece Injection Molding
Process: One-piece molding using a mold, resulting in good integrity, high production efficiency, and low cost.
Suitable for small to medium-sized sofas and price-sensitive products.
Plastic-Coated Iron/Plastic-Coated Steel
Process: An internal metal frame is surrounded by an injection-molded plastic shell, combining the strength of metal with the aesthetics and corrosion resistance of plastic.
Suitable for heavy-duty sofas and styles with extremely high load-bearing requirements.
Height-Adjustable
Process: Usually consists of a PP shell with an internal spiral or snap-fit structure, allowing for minor height adjustments to adapt to uneven surfaces. Suitable for export products (adapting to installation environments in different countries) or high-end finished sofas.
III. Appearance Design and Style
Currently, the plastic sofa legs on the market mainly exhibit the following design trends to meet the needs of different home styles:
**Wood Grain Surface**
This is one of the most popular trends. Through mold-textured techniques, realistic wood grain textures are created on the plastic surface, even resembling the feel of solid wood. It retains the moisture-proof, insect-proof, and durable properties of plastic while achieving the natural visual effect of solid wood.
**Geometric Shapes** Designs are no longer limited to circles or squares. Triangles, cones, polygons, and other highly modern designs are becoming more prevalent. These legs typically feature strong lines and sharp angles, creating a strong sense of design when paired with minimalist sofas.
**Metallic Texture/Mixed Style** Electroplating, spray painting, and other processes are used to give the plastic surface a chrome, gold, or matte black finish. There are also styles that combine a plastic base with metal supports, maintaining stability while appearing lighter and more modern.
