Types of Gas Springs
Gas springs are primarily categorized by their function and motion.
1. Compression Gas Spring (Standard Locking Strut)
This is the most common type. It is naturally in an extended position due to the internal gas pressure and must be compressed by an external force.
2. Tension Gas Spring (or "Reverse Action")
The opposite of a compression spring. It is naturally in a retracted position and must be pulled to extend.
3. Compression-Locking Gas Spring (Stainless Steel Pin Lock)
A specific, heavy-duty type of compression spring with a very positive locking mechanism.
4. Swivel Chair Gas Spring (Office Chair Cylinder)
A highly specialized type of gas spring designed for one primary purpose: office chairs.
