Understanding the color code system is the most crucial step in ensuring product quality and appearance consistency.
First, you need to know how to accurately match the sample color code. This is the first and most critical step in quality control. It must be treated with utmost care.
We can start by inquiring with the manufacturer or trading company about their color cards and whether they have a universal standard color card. For example, if using international color cards: request the supplier to use international standard color card numbers such as RAL (European) or Pantone to label the colors. This is the most accurate and least ambiguous method.
Secondly, the most common and accurate method is physical sample matching: "Sample matching" is the most common approach. Send your original sample (which could be an edge banding strip, board sample, etc.) to the supplier and request them to produce a sample for confirmation.
Supplier's Own Color Swatches: Large edge banding manufacturers usually have their own standard color swatches, from which you can select a close color and then fine-tune it.
Rigorous Sample Confirmation Process ("Sampling")
**Provide Detailed Requirements:** When sending samples, attach written requirements, including: color, texture (glossy, matte, wood grain, solid color, etc.), thickness (commonly 0.45mm, 0.7mm, 1.0mm, etc.), width (common specifications such as 21mm, 30mm, 45mm, etc.), material (whether it is co-extruded/coated backing strip), and adhesive type (EVA or PUR hot melt adhesive).
Initial Sample Confirmation: The supplier will produce the first batch of small samples (usually 1-3 meters) according to your requirements. Upon receipt, compare it with the original sample under a standard light source box (D65 light source) or observe it from multiple angles under natural light. Confirm the color, texture, and feel.
Second/Bulk Sample Confirmation: After the initial sample confirmation, request the supplier to produce a "bulk sample" (e.g., 50-100 meters) for machine testing. This step is crucial! Test its melting effect, bonding strength, surface abrasion resistance, and edge trimming effect during edge sealing. Ensure that the laboratory color matches the actual production performance.
